A Chiropractic Education

Legislators and the Governor are attempting to tackle a Medicaid issue this year that is more than daunting–there is simply not enough money. More than that, the costs of pensions and Medicaid are growing, while the State falls further and further behind. This is why it wasn’t exactly a surprise when we heard chiropractic being mentioned specifically as one of the services that was targeted to be cut out of Medicaid altogether. The ICS has already assembled and distributed the above packets demonstrating both the effectiveness of care as well as cost effectiveness.

If a Medicaid patient no longer has access to chiropractic care (which cost the State $8.67 a visit), then the chances are that they will seek care from Emergency Rooms instead–costing the state on average $101.59 for the EVALUATION ALONE.  The costs grow significantly once prescription drugs, physician visits, and possible surgery is calculated in.  To put it simply, from either standard of care or cost effectiveness, chiropractic is the best option for the State of Illinois.  Cutting chiropractic coverage will ultimately raise overall Medicaid costs. If they really want to reduce the Medicaid budget, legislators should instead be trying to figure out how to expand chiropractic coverage under the Medicaid program.

We are so well equipped to help people with a broad range of health problems that Medicaid should embrace us totally. What a waste that they do not.

Hooray for you for pushing the issue. Just love what the ICS Team is doing for us. Let us know what you need us to do next.

Honestly, there is a good chance this is what our Lobby Day is going to center around – simple, chiropractic education. It will be April 25th down here in Springfield. We are going to try and get some students down here for the first time and we’d like to grow our numbers this year–especially with chiropractic in limbo for both Medicaid and Illinois’s implementation of the National Health Care Plan. So what do I need? MORE doctors down here on April 25! =)

Yes, I know that a Wednesday is never convenient for our doctors, but its the one time I can (mostly) guarantee that legislators will be there. Its not uncommon for them to leave early on Thursday afternoon – which would result in a lot of upset doctors.
