Five-Day Forecast

Monday was one of my last non-session days until the end of May.  I tried to utilize that time to return some phone calls to docs, write a board report, and do some general work around the office.  Last night I had three fundraisers to attend, one of which was Speaker Madigan’s and is easily one of the largest events of the year.  The Speaker greets you at the front door at the Yacht Club, but once you’re inside you join a large number of the other Democratic legislators, lobbyists, and those with political aspirations and just want to be seen.  After Madigan’s event, I went to see Senator Dale Righter (R-Mattoon), and then Representative Mike Bost (R-Carbondale).

Tuesday me and a small handful of others will coordinate our efforts and work on all of the committee members to ensure that our recoupment bill gets out of committee tomorrow at 2:00 pm.

Wednesday morning I will be attending the Governor’s Prayer Breakfast, and I’ll be at the Statehouse after that. As I mentioned above, our bill is up in committee in the afternoon.  And I’ll finish off the evening with another legislative event from 5:30-8:30.

Thursday & Friday I will be focused getting our two bills lined up for their final floor vote.  If Senate Executive runs long on Wednesday, there is always a chance that they will “recess” it, meaning they will have to come back later to address the remaining issues.  When a committee is recessed, everyone just needs to be constantly ready because they will give about an hours notice of when they’re going to squeeze it into the schedule.
